The Russian government has established a subcommission responsible for the development and deployment of artificial intelligence technologies. The body will coordinate AI projects across the economy, the social sector and public administration.

Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Government Staff Dmitry Grigorenko has been appointed to lead the structure. The subcommission is expected to serve as a central hub for addressing practical issues related to deploying artificial intelligence across different sectors.

The office of the deputy prime minister said the new body will work with the Presidential Commission on the Development of Artificial Intelligence Technologies.

Officials said the move establishes a three-tier governance system for AI development in Russia. The framework includes federal agencies, regional authorities and security institutions.

Coordination of AI Projects and Infrastructure Development

The subcommission will focus on practical issues related to deploying artificial intelligence. Priority areas include the use of AI in industry, the social sector and government administration.

According to the deputy prime minister’s office, the body will coordinate the work of federal ministries and define priority areas for technological development. It will also develop criteria for Russian artificial intelligence models and prepare state support programs for the sector.

A separate area of work will focus on infrastructure. The subcommission will take part in planning the construction of data centers used to train and operate artificial intelligence systems.

Regional Task Forces to Be Created

Similar structures will also be established at the regional level. They will be headed by leaders of Russia’s federal subjects. Regional task forces will oversee the deployment of AI technologies locally and collect proposals that will be forwarded to the federal level.

Members of the government subcommission include representatives of the economic bloc and key sectoral ministries. Among them are Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov, Education Minister Sergey Kravtsov, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, Economic Development Minister Maksim Reshetnikov, Science and Higher Education Minister Valery Falkov, Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev and Digital Development Minister Maksut Shadayev. Representatives of the Finance Ministry, Justice Ministry, Defense Ministry, the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Moscow city government will also participate in the body’s work.
