An upgraded Russian Tu-214 aircraft fitted with domestically produced systems in place of foreign equipment is ready for serial production following successful tests, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Transport said. The Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) approved the design changes at the Kazan Aviation Plant. The aircraft has completed certification tests after imported equipment, materials, and components were replaced with Russian-made alternatives.

Following the upgrades, specialists conducted ground taxi tests. The first flight of the import-substituted Tu-214 took place in November last year. This was followed by 14 refinement flights, and since February the aircraft has been undergoing additional certification testing.

Scaling Up Production

The performance of 17 key elements of onboard radio-electronic equipment, including communications, flight control, and navigation systems, has now been confirmed in practice. Specialists have also developed, for the first time, domestic collision avoidance systems and ground proximity early warning systems.

The United Aircraft Corporation plans to produce up to 20 Tu-214 aircraft per year by 2027.
