Russia to Equip Critical Infrastructure With Domestically Made Industrial Computers

Russian software developers and hardware manufacturers have joined forces to launch a homegrown lineup of industrial automation equipment.

Russia has taken another significant step toward technological independence in industrial automation. Astra Group and hardware maker AVADS HARD have announced the launch of a new line of Russian-made panel PCs and industrial computers running the Astra Linux Embedded operating system.

The equipment is designed for use in industrial process control systems and at facilities classified as critical information infrastructure.

Domestic Hardware, Domestic Software

Under a licensing agreement, the companies developed AVADS ASP operator panels and AVADS AVK industrial computers. The systems combine Russian-made hardware with the embedded version of Astra Linux, delivering a high level of cybersecurity. The platform implements mandatory integrity control, operates within a closed software environment with digitally signed executable files, and allows administrators to manage connected devices while restricting unauthorized access to data.

High Performance, Low Power Consumption

A key feature of the project is its focus on 64-bit ARM architecture, which provides solid computing and graphics performance alongside high energy efficiency. Astra Linux Embedded fully supports device graphics subsystems, simplifying operator workflows and improving reliability at industrial sites.

Process Control Applications

The devices are intended for use in the oil and gas sector, energy, transport infrastructure and other industries that require stable visualization and process control.

“The result of this joint effort opens up broad opportunities for customers—both in new projects and in modernization or import substitution,” said Alexey Timchenko, CEO of AVADS HARD, highlighting the importance of trusted hardware-software complexes for critical infrastructure facilities.

Astra Group is also emphasizing the depth of the technological partnership.

“Our collaboration shows how a domestic operating system can serve as the foundation for fully import-independent solutions in industrial automation,” said Mikhail Gellerman, head of operating systems at Astra Group. According to him, Astra Linux Embedded is not just an operating system but a full-fledged platform for building secure industrial infrastructure.

Against the backdrop of steady growth in Russia’s industrial automation market and strong demand for domestic technologies, the new partnership strengthens the position of Russian manufacturers and expands choices for industrial enterprises.
