Russia to Launch National AI Development Center

The new state-backed hub will scale AI across government, economy, and society.

The Russian government has officially approved the creation of a national Center for the Development of Artificial Intelligence. According to the press office, the center will oversee the strategic integration of AI technologies across economic, administrative, social, and international domains. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko has been named as the project coordinator.

The center's responsibilities include selecting and scaling effective AI solutions, facilitating collaboration between government agencies, businesses, and regional authorities, and establishing methodology and safety standards for AI deployment.

Grigorenko emphasized the importance of making AI-driven outcomes accessible to all citizens while also enhancing Russia’s position in the global tech arena. The center will operate as a federal project office under the Analytical Center at the Russian government.

This initiative aligns with two national programs launched in 2025: 'Data Economy and Digital Transformation of Government' and the federal AI program. Sergey Boyarsky, chair of the State Duma’s Committee on Information Policy, noted that the rapid evolution of AI calls for tight coordination among all institutions. He also mentioned a cross-party working group focused on creating legislation to regulate AI in various sectors.
