Russia to Simplify Tax Deduction Process Through Digital Platform

Starting in late September 2025, Russian citizens will be able to apply for education-related tax deductions online through the Gosuslugi portal.

Russia is moving to simplify the process of claiming personal income tax deductions which either reimburse part of paid taxes or reduce the taxable income base.

Beginning in late September 2025, citizens will be able to apply for education-related tax deductions via the national e-government platform Gosuslugi. The integration is expected to streamline document submission and make the process significantly easier for users. The funds may be used for education both in Russia and abroad, according to Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development, speaking to RIA Novosti.

Shadayev also noted that additional types of tax deductions will be added in the future. The ministry is currently working with other government agencies to enable online applications for investment deductions, long-term savings, and income from specific types of activities, among others.

By the end of September, the ministry also plans to launch a tax calculator service and that move will allow users to estimate the amount they may be eligible to claim.
