Developed by KAMAZ and Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the new self-driving hauler is built to improve safety and efficiency in mining operations.

Bauman Moscow State Technical University has unveiled a new autonomous mining truck developed in collaboration with KAMAZ. Dubbed 'Jupiter 30,' the vehicle is part of a national initiative to deploy unmanned machinery across Russia’s mining sector, reducing reliance on foreign tech, according to the university’s press office.

Designed for transporting rock and ore without human intervention, the Jupiter 30 enhances safety by keeping operators out of hazardous quarry environments. It features a hybrid powertrain, energy recuperation system, and a unique suspension that ensures high maneuverability, even in tight spaces.

Key design innovations include shuttle-mode operation for efficient movement under excavators and in narrow lanes, a crab-walk function enabled by dual-axis steering, and the absence of a cab, which reduces weight and boosts payload capacity.

The truck is already protected by two patents, and its core technologies are being integrated into KAMAZ’s production lineup. The project marks a significant step toward advancing Russia’s industrial autonomy in unmanned transport systems.

Widespread adoption of such vehicles could make mining operations in Russia safer and more profitable.
