Russia Uses AI and Stereo Vision to Modernize Mineral Extraction

A new high-precision imaging system developed by Russian firms is helping mining companies visualize underground rock formations and cut costs.

Russian companies Rostelecom and Davtech have unveiled an AI-driven stereo vision system designed to enhance mineral extraction. The technology provides highly accurate data on subsurface rock composition at depths ranging from 3 to 30 meters.

This innovation is transforming geological assessment. With stereo imaging and nanotech-powered cameras, companies can better evaluate the need for blasting operations. The system transmits real-time visuals to a cloud platform, while GPS sensors pinpoint exact excavation locations.

Several mining enterprises have already adopted the tool. Experts estimate that using the system could save up to 50 million rubles (around $560,000) per year at a single mining site.

The platform, which replaces expensive imported systems, is built entirely with Russian-made radio-electronic components. Beyond mining, the granularity analysis technology can also be applied to environmental monitoring, security, and operations in challenging natural environments.
