Russia Uses Quantum Technology to Secure AI Training for the First Time
At SPIEF 2026, IT holding company T1, VTB, and Russian Railways presented Kvantovyy kriptoanklav (Quantum Crypto Enclave), Russia's first pilot project to protect machine-learning infrastructure using quantum key distribution.

Encryption keys are generated in real time and transmitted through a dedicated fiber-optic line operated by Russian Railways. Eviris, a hardware-software platform developed by T1, allows multiple organizations to jointly train AI models without exposing their data to partners. The technology was tested on VTB's credit-scoring applications, and the pilot was successful.
T1 CEO Dmitry Kharitonov noted that quantum computers capable of breaking modern encryption methods could emerge within the next 15 years, making it important to build secure infrastructure well in advance. Large-scale deployment of the platform is scheduled for 2027.
