Russia’s Investigative Committee is entering a new era of digital transformation that promises to reshape how crimes are solved. According to members of the Federation Council, the integration of cutting-edge tools—such as artificial intelligence and biometric identification—will transform investigative work, speed up criminal detection, and enhance public safety.
Senator Artyom Sheikin has endorsed the agency’s modernization plans, noting that new technologies now make it possible to process vast amounts of data, analyze evidence using AI algorithms, and identify suspects through biometric traces. This approach not only accelerates investigations but also minimizes human error, improving the accuracy of information.
Facial, Voice, and Handwriting Recognition
Key elements of the transformation include facial, voice, and handwriting recognition systems, along with big data analytics. These technologies have already proven effective: they help connect seemingly unrelated crimes, expose complex fraud schemes, and trace financial transactions—particularly in cybercrime investigations.
Special attention will be given to integrating digital systems to ensure that investigators can quickly respond to emerging threats such as online fraud. This integration, in turn, is expected to strengthen public trust in law enforcement agencies.
Funding for the project in 2025 will come from budget optimizations within the Ministry of Digital Development, while from 2026 onward it will be supported by federal funds, Vedomosti reports. All technological upgrades will be carried out according to the requirements set by the Investigative Committee. The initiative reflects a global shift toward high-tech policing and data-driven justice.
