Russian AI Diagnocat Shown to Assist Dentists in Analyzing Dental Scans
Researchers compared the speed and accuracy of dentists and an AI system when evaluating dental imaging.

The Russian neural network Diagnocat has been described as an effective assistant for dentists that does not tire, misses no details, and works very quickly. The unusual experiment was reported by the press service of Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University. Researchers compared the speed and accuracy of dentists and the neural network when evaluating 100 cone-beam computed tomography scans. The results showed that the AI completed the analysis much faster, taking about four minutes on average in complex cases. A human specialist needed at least 25 minutes. Diagnocat made errors in 4.6 percent of cases, while dentists made errors in 7.29 percent. The researchers noted that the AI records every detail, even those that may not have practical value for a clinician. Together, however, the human specialist and the neural network complement each other.
Working Alongside a Doctor
The experiment showed that AI could significantly reduce the workload on medical professionals.
