Russian AI-Equipped Dashcams Help Patrol Cars Flag Suspicious Vehicles

AI-powered video systems from Russia are turning police patrol cars into real-time surveillance units that identify stolen or suspicious vehicles on the fly.

A new AI-driven video monitoring system developed by Russian firm NtechLab is being used by the country’s traffic police to streamline vehicle checks. Mounted directly on patrol cars, the smart cameras scan license plates in real time and instantly alert officers to suspicious vehicles.

The system can detect if a car is deregistered, flagged as stolen, or associated with a driver who has had their license revoked. It operates completely autonomously, requiring no power hookup and functioning for days without recharging.

Beyond road patrols, NtechLab has also developed a suite of AI tools for airports. These systems identify individuals who enter restricted zones, flag illegal parking, and detect suspicious behavior.

This smart video analytics technology is being expanded into broader public safety networks. In Novosibirsk, the AI was integrated into the city’s 'Safe City' platform and helped locate six missing children, reuniting them with their families.
