Russian Cities Embrace Digital Platforms for Public Transit

The city of Kursk is ushering in a new era for trams and e-buses with domestic IT solutions that improve efficiency, safety, and passenger comfort.

Across Russia, cities are modernizing public transportation systems with digital technologies aimed at improving service quality and sustainability. In Kursk, a federal program has upgraded the electric transport fleet, including new trams and e-buses equipped with robotics for climate control, safety, and other functions. Passengers now benefit from faster, quieter rides—with options to charge devices and travel more comfortably.

As part of the overhaul, Kursk has extended and modernized tram lines, using noise-reduction technologies that make the system nearly silent. Environmental considerations are central to the upgrades: the new electric vehicles meet top global standards for sustainability.

Next, Kursk plans to apply IT systems to rebuild its tram depot and improve additional routes. Similar modernization efforts are underway in other Russian regions, including Yaroslavl, Rostov, Volgograd, and Perm.
