Russian Companies Invest More Than $31 Million in AI Development

Spending on advanced IT technologies has nearly doubled, signaling that artificial intelligence is now seen as a strategic priority.

Investment in artificial intelligence technologies in Russia is expected to exceed $31 million in 2025, according to data cited by Rossiyskaya Gazeta based on analytics from MTS. That is nearly three times more than in 2024, when companies invested just over $12 million.

Even as many businesses tighten budgets, AI development remains a priority. In 2025, the share of corporate investment allocated to artificial intelligence rose from 14% to 27%, underscoring the view that the technology is critical for long-term competitiveness.

A Tech-Focused State Budget

The most prominent players in the market are Sber and Yandex. Both companies are investing heavily in AI talent, computing infrastructure, and flagship products such as GigaChat, Shedevrum, ML Space, and other platforms.

AI projects are also receiving support from the state budget. In 2025, around $100 million has been allocated to a targeted federal program. The funds are being used for scientific research, support for development teams, specialist training, and the creation of datasets.
