Russian Developers Launch Secure Platform for Industrial Automation

A new modular system, built with cybersecurity at its core, promises safer integration of automation solutions across critical sectors like oil, gas, and energy.

Russia has unveiled a comprehensive cybersecurity solution for open industrial automation systems (IAS). Developed over three years, the platform was a joint effort by major players in the oil and gas, chemical, metallurgy, and energy industries. The initiative emerged in 2022 when many companies recognized an urgent need for cyber-resilience and scalable solutions that could be integrated with minimal risk.

The result is a modular open platform designed to meet the standards of any equipment provider. Cybersecurity is embedded at every stage of the platform’s lifecycle, forming a foundational part of its architecture.

The system was introduced by Positive Technologies, a leading Russian company specializing in industrial cyber-resilience and cross-industry security standards. Rubytech, known for its Skala^r software-hardware systems for high-load infrastructure, also participated in the project.

Stakeholders in the project emphasized that only by working together can Russia achieve technological sovereignty and accelerate import substitution in critical sectors.

The new platform is set to undergo real-world testing by the end of 2025, with developers aiming to capture 25% of Russia’s IAS market by 2030. The project marks a major step toward safeguarding the country’s critical infrastructure.
