Environmental inspectors in Sevastopol are set to be trained to work with a digital model of the coastline, according to the press service of Sevastopol State University.

The program will train specialists from the Black Sea–Azov regional office of Rosprirodnadzor. They will learn to operate a “digital twin of a coastal geosystem” — a virtual tool that assesses environmental risks in real time. Using mathematical modeling, the system calculates processes that are impossible to detect through direct observation alone.

Working With Live Data Streams

Training will rely on live data streams from a wide array of sensors that monitor temperature, air quality, and the condition of the marine environment.

According to Svetlana Rubtsova, head of the university’s Department of Digital Geoecology, the curriculum includes disciplines focused on modern environmental analysis services and geospatial technologies that help ensure the safety of coastal areas.
