Russian Face Recognition System Deployed at Seychelles Airports
VisionLabs technology speeds up border control and cuts inspection times by more than 80%.
Russian company VisionLabs has installed its biometric gates at international airports in Seychelles and Saint Kitts and Nevis, enabling passengers to pass through border control several times faster. Inspection times have been reduced by an average of 84%.
For Locals and Tourists
Each biometric gate, supporting a database of up to 10,000 faces, costs between $20,000 and $50,000. A total of 15 passport control gates have been deployed across the two airports. An additional four gates have been installed in Seychelles at seaports and land border checkpoints. The system is available to both residents and international travelers.
To pass through biometric control, users must upload a photo and passport details in advance via the electronic travel authorization (ETA) system. When approaching the gate, the camera recognizes the passenger’s face and matches it against the stored data. There is no need to look directly into the camera, and the entire process takes no more than 30 seconds.

According to him, the technology helps eliminate queues at passport control and reduces the workload on border officers while maintaining a high level of security.
VisionLabs biometric solutions are currently in use at eight airports across Africa and Asia. While the company has not disclosed the full list, it plans to deploy similar systems in 10 more countries in 2026 for a range of applications, marking a broader international expansion of Russian IT solutions.
