Russian Firm Develops AI-Driven Platform to Revolutionize Diamond Exploration

A new IT platform from Arkhangelsk-based geologists cuts diamond exploration costs by reducing the need for hundreds of test drillings.

The Russian company Pomor Diamonds has unveiled Proex-Geology, an innovative digital platform that dramatically accelerates the search for diamond deposits. According to company CEO Vladimir Shchukin, the technology slashes the need for expensive exploratory drilling. While conventional methods hit the target once every several hundred attempts, Proex-Geology achieves success in one out of every eleven boreholes, CNews reports.

The platform combines the roles of geologist, prospector, and analyst in a unified digital environment. It leverages geoinformation analysis, geophysics, and geodata processing to scan for potential deposits. Unlike foreign alternatives, the Russian system works as a fully integrated solution, analyzing massive datasets—including archived Soviet-era aeromagnetic surveys.

Using the platform, Pomor Diamonds has already identified three promising areas with signs of diamond-bearing formations in the Arkhangelsk region. The next step: evaluating their reserves.

"This is our competitive edge. Several major companies have expressed interest in buying the platform, but we’ve chosen to scale our own exploration efforts instead," Shchukin said.

Developed by students in Severodvinsk under the guidance of professional geologists, the system is unprecedented in Russia and could reshape how diamond prospecting is done.
