Russian investigators are using domestically developed software to solve cybercrimes, Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, said in an interview with TASS. He noted that the committee’s central office includes a unit that develops its own software. The technologies analyze large volumes of data and help identify what investigators describe as a digital trace.

Software designed to track cryptocurrency transactions is used to investigate IT-related crimes. When needed, the country’s largest IT companies are brought in to help resolve technical issues.

AI and Video Analytics

Over the past three years, Russian investigators have solved more than 30,000 cybercrime cases, most of them involving economic offenses. The situation is complicated by criminals’ growing use of artificial intelligence. At the same time, investigative technologies are being upgraded. According to Bastrykin, AI at the Investigative Committee will be used to identify patterns of criminal behavior based on the analysis of case files.

Technological tools are also used to examine crime scenes and document evidence. Video analytics systems help identify wanted individuals in footage from street surveillance cameras.
