Russian Mapping Service Adds Real-Time Location Sharing
Users can now share their location live.
Yandex has rolled out a real-time location-sharing feature in Yandex Maps, the company’s press service said.
Users can instantly build a route to a shared location, helping friends and family avoid losing each other in unfamiliar places. When a link is shared, a pin appears on the other user’s map.
Always-On Tracking
Location sharing can be enabled for any duration, including continuous, always-on tracking that shows a user’s position on the map in real time.
“The scenario of sharing your location is already familiar to the market. In Maps, we made it as simple and intuitive as possible. There’s no need to download a separate app or switch modes – everything works within the main interface. With the new feature, it will be easier for users to find each other in the city,” said Anton Lyamin, head of the search and place-selection team at Yandex Maps.
Users can start and stop location sharing in the Geolocation section of their profile by tapping their current location.
