Russian Researchers Have Created the First Open Testing Arena for AI Robots

The development aims to make testing algorithms and solutions involving AI-powered robots more convenient and higher-quality.

A New Benchmark for Robot Intelligence

The Institute of Artificial Intelligence (AIRI) has introduced an open testing arena designed to evaluate and compare modern control models for robots and simulation environments. The platform brings together both virtual and real robotic systems, allowing researchers to launch robots in simulation, connect physical devices, and measure how accurately and quickly they execute commands across a wide range of scenarios.

“We emphasize accessibility and objective performance metrics that reflect not only the technical capabilities of each model but also its real‑world usefulness for end users,” said Vladislav Kurenkov, head of AIRI’s Adaptive Agents research group.

Models for Physical and Virtual Robots

At this stage, the platform supports popular robotic manipulators and includes three AI‑based control models for real robots along with four intelligence models tailored for simulation tasks. One of these systems is an open‑source model adapted by AIRI to operate in Russian with a significantly improved localization coefficient.

A Tool for the Next Robotics Leap

By standardizing evaluation methods and enabling transparent comparison, the AIRI testing arena provides the research community with a unified foundation for advancing robot intelligence. The platform lowers technical barriers, accelerates the adoption of AI‑driven robotics, and helps ensure that robotic systems become safer, more predictable and more efficient for industrial and research applications.
