Students at Bauman Moscow State Technical University—one of Russia’s leading research institutions—have demonstrated how virtual reality (VR) and high‑precision LIDAR scanning can be combined to create detailed digital replicas of physical environments. The presentation took place at Bauman Digital World, a new science‑and‑education cluster in Moscow designed to accelerate emerging‑tech development.
Oleg Yeremin, deputy dean of the university’s Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems, emphasized that VR and AR technologies are becoming essential tools for educating next‑generation engineers. Student Yuri Nazarenko presented his work on building a VR‑based indoor model using LIDAR technologies—tools capable of capturing geometry with extraordinary accuracy and moving real‑world spaces into immersive virtual reality environments. Inside the university’s Virtual Reality Laboratory, students test their concepts using VR headsets and GPU‑powered workstations.
