Russian Students Build Autonomous Robot to Clean Grain Storage Facilities

The machine works around the clock, consumes little energy, and could reshape how farmers protect their harvests.

Students at Saratov State University named after Vavilov have developed a new robot designed to keep grain storage facilities spotless. Maintaining strict cleanliness in these environments is critical for preserving harvest quality and preventing losses, and until now, the task required tedious manual labor.

The robot autonomously sweeps storage areas 24/7 without human oversight. According to its creators, the machine consumes minimal energy and automatically recharges itself at a docking station before returning to work. Once its container is full, it navigates to a pre-set location and empties its load before resuming cleaning.

Developers believe the robot has strong potential beyond the lab. The technology could be deployed not only by large agricultural companies but also by small-scale farmers, offering a cost-efficient way to extend the life and quality of stored grain.
