Russian Students Develop Technologies for 6G Communications Systems

An HSE team is focusing on creating key elements of the electronic component base for sixth-generation communications.

Researchers at Russia’s Higher School of Economics (HSE) are working on 6G technologies, the university’s press service said. The effort is being led by the strategic technology projects team.

The university aims to build its own body of expertise in this field, as targeted deployment of 6G communications technologies is expected in the coming years.

In 2025, the team focused on developing key elements of the electronic component base. Researchers are building a digital platform for the development and testing of 6G technologies. The platform is designed to accelerate the development and prototyping of electronic components through the use of digital twins.

The team has already developed technical solutions for interference-resistant coding, algorithms to protect information from unauthorized access, as well as multiple access methods and network resource management techniques.

Researchers have also presented prototypes of smart radio environment elements based on silicon and III–V semiconductor microelectronics, capable of adapting to changing conditions and controlling signal propagation characteristics.

Outlook for 2026

In 2026, HSE researchers plan to refine their solutions and attract industrial partners. At the end of this year, the university launched an idea competition focused on developing AI agents. Selected concepts for new AI-based digital products will receive expert and technological support.

“Artificial intelligence, as a cross-cutting technology, is an integral part of digital product solutions. The project stands out by combining AI expertise with industry-specific knowledge in integrated product teams. In just the first year of implementing our strategic technology projects, we have already launched several AI agents on a single platform, and we do not plan to stop there. I invite our researchers, experts, and developers to join the project team,” said Elena Odoevskaya, vice rector of HSE.
