Russian Students to Perform Alongside Robots
A creative team at RTU MIREA is preparing a one-of-a-kind stage production.
Students at the Russian Technological University MIREA are preparing an original performance that will bring robots and drones onto the stage alongside human dancers. The production is a collaboration between the KNOOPS&M dance ensemble and the RTU Institute of Artificial Intelligence. The concept was developed by Alexey Romanov, associate professor in the Department of Biocybernetic Systems and Technologies.
New Formats for Creativity and Education
According to the performers, the show will demonstrate that genuine artistic expression is possible even within technical disciplines. The team chose not to pre-program the robots; instead, specialists will operate the machines live during the performance. The students describe the project as a synthesis of art and technology. On stage, they will not only perform to music but also coordinate movements in real time with a robot or drone.
According to the students, this is only the first experiment. The next phase will involve a production featuring pre-programmed machines. Emerging technologies, they say, are reshaping cultural spaces and opening new formats for education.
