Russian Students Win International AI Olympiad with Record Gold

Russia’s national team claimed six gold medals at the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad in China, outperforming 60 other countries and setting a new record.
Russian high school students excelled at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence, winning six gold, one silver, and one bronze medal—the best result among all participating countries. The competition, held in China from August 2 to 8 with support from UNESCO, brought together 300 talented students from 61 nations.
Over two days, participants tackled challenging tasks in machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, as well as programmed robots in team events. Russia’s team ranked in the top 10 in the group stage and added a team silver medal to their personal victories.
The team’s preparation was led by experts from the Central University, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT), and the AI Alliance, with the participation of leading tech companies including Sber, VK, and Yandex. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko noted that the students’ victory aligns with Russia’s strategic goal of becoming a leader in artificial intelligence.
