St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO) has outlined its most significant artificial intelligence projects of 2025. The university operates a dedicated AI unit focused on applied research and development.

This year, researchers unveiled what they describe as Russia’s first system for the automated creation of multi-agent AI. The team has built a kind of “constructor” designed to help companies develop their own neural networks for a wide range of tasks. According to Denis Nasonov, head of the Industrial AI laboratory, the system does more than generate code – it supports the entire development cycle, including self-testing and error correction. The ITMO platform is intended to make AI a practical and accessible tool even for small businesses across different sectors of the economy.

Prostor AI

Another major development is Prostor (Roominess), a digital platform for architects and builders created at ITMO. Its built-in AI is designed to professionally assess urban development projects, including plans covering entire cities.

The neural network analyzes a wide range of parameters related to social, transport, and engineering infrastructure, as well as other urban systems, and then forecasts the potential impact of proposed changes. For example, it can estimate how traffic volumes or environmental pressure might increase. Using Prostor, urban planning analysis can be completed in just a few days.

These projects represent only part of the work underway at one of Russia’s leading IT universities. The open presentation highlights how the country’s scientific community is contributing to technological advances in artificial intelligence.
