Russian University Launches Digital Health Center

Perm State Medical University is building a hub to train future doctors in artificial intelligence, big data, and the protection of sensitive medical information.

Perm State Medical University named after Wagner has announced the creation of an educational center for digital healthcare. The move is designed to prepare a new generation of physicians ready to work with cutting-edge technologies such as AI and big data. The initiative seeks to integrate education, science, and practical healthcare into a single digital ecosystem for the region.

Digital healthcare is one of Russia’s national priorities, and the Perm project could serve as a model for other regions, accelerating the sector’s transformation nationwide. Globally, such projects matter as testing grounds for innovations that promise more accurate diagnoses, more effective treatment, and greater access to quality medical care.

University rector Anna Blagonravova said the program will include specialized courses. Students will study information security and modules of the future national healthcare information system. They will also gain hands-on practice in a test environment now being built in the Perm region.

The center’s research will focus on several key areas: applying AI and machine learning to medical solutions, developing robotic and adaptive medical technologies, and creating intelligent decision-support systems to assist doctors with diagnosis and treatment choices.
