Russian Wood Industry Patents AI-Based Quality Control System

A neural network system from Russian manufacturer Sveza detects wood defects with over 90 percent accuracy, setting new standards for industrial automation.

A smart quality control system for wood materials has been developed in Russia, with Kostroma-based manufacturer Sveza receiving a Eurasian patent for its innovative AI-driven technology. According to media outlet SMI44, the system identifies and classifies defects in boards and sheet materials in real time with over 90 percent accuracy—significantly outperforming traditional inspection methods.

Powered by machine vision and artificial intelligence, the technology eliminates human error and dramatically reduces inspection time. The patent is valid in nine countries, including Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, opening doors for exporting Russian innovations abroad.

Sveza’s press office noted that the system not only improves product quality but also eases the workload on specialists by automating repetitive tasks.

Previously, the company made Russia’s Top 50 list of corporate innovations with a similar defect detection scanner. This latest breakthrough reinforces the global competitiveness of Russia’s manufacturing sector and sets a new benchmark in the wood processing industry.
