Russia’s C3D Geometric Kernel Turns 30
The Russian-developed 3D modeling engine has become a cornerstone of the nation’s technological sovereignty and now competes on the global stage.
C3D Labs, a Russian software company, is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its C3D geometric kernel. Originally created for the KOMPAS-3D system to design three-dimensional models and drawings in mechanical engineering, construction, and instrumentation, the project has grown into a world-class product.
In 2010, strategic analysis and testing confirmed the C3D kernel’s competitiveness against leading foreign counterparts. This validation led to further development and, in 2012, the creation of C3D Labs as a standalone company.
Today, C3D Labs is a key developer of geometric kernel technology in Russia and BRICS countries. The company plays a crucial role in supporting technological independence by ensuring compatibility with Russian operating systems such as Astra Linux. Its products, including C3D Toolkit and C3D Modeler, demonstrate Russia’s ability to build critical software that competes internationally.
