Russia’s online encyclopedia Ruviki has begun a large-scale content update using artificial intelligence. All changes proposed by the algorithms undergo rigorous review by scientific experts, ensuring both accuracy and objectivity.
The project is significant not only for Russia but for the global community, establishing a new benchmark for trustworthy digital encyclopedias. Ruviki demonstrates how advanced technologies can enhance education and science while minimizing the risks of outdated or biased information under the careful supervision of specialists.
Traditionally, online encyclopedias have relied on volunteer contributors, often resulting in inconsistency and subjectivity. To solve this problem and guarantee up-to-date content in an era of rapidly aging information, Ruviki has implemented a comprehensive suite of AI-based services.
By 2025, the system had already delivered impressive results: 32,000 new articles in Russian, 12,000 in the languages of Russia’s ethnic groups, and significant updates to more than 20,000 existing entries. The AI operates in real time, handling routine tasks and ensuring that data is constantly refreshed.
A key principle of the project is that final approval always rests with experts. The platform has expanded its collaboration with the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as leading museums, libraries, and archives, which guarantees a high level of trust in the published materials.
At the same time, new knowledge-protection technologies are being introduced. Special bots counteract vandalism, while a validation service automatically checks and labels content for compliance with Russian law. Future plans include launching a GPT-powered patrol system for even more effective monitoring.
