Russia’s MAX Messenger Hits 20 Million Daily Users

The homegrown messaging app now has over 45 million registered accounts — and its focus on data security is fueling rapid growth.

The Russian messenger MAX has reached a new milestone, attracting 20 million daily active users and more than 45 million registered accounts as of mid-October, according to Maksut Shadayev, Russia’s Minister of Digital Development. The numbers mark a major success for the country’s national digital platform initiative — designed to provide a secure, domestically managed alternative to foreign messengers.

Built Around Privacy and Protection

MAX has gained a reputation as one of Russia’s most secure messaging platforms. In September 2025 alone, its internal security center blocked 105,000 suspicious accounts, removed over 350,000 malicious files, and even helped law enforcement detain nine online fraudsters.

The app’s safety infrastructure combines automated monitoring systems with round-the-clock human moderation. During the same month, users pressed the in-app “Report” button more than 68,000 times, demonstrating growing trust in the platform’s protective tools.

MAX’s rapid adoption underscores a broader digital trend in Russia: a shift toward homegrown, tightly secured communication ecosystems, where data stays within national borders and cybersecurity is treated as a key feature — not an afterthought.
