Russia’s Ministry of Construction Deploys Drones in Building and Public Utilities

Officials have approved five priority use cases for unmanned aerial systems to improve efficiency in construction and housing services.

Russia’s Ministry of Construction has held a strategic meeting on integrating unmanned aerial systems (UAS) into construction and public utilities. Chaired by Deputy Minister Konstantin Mikhaylik, the session brought together experts to discuss an action plan and approve five key applications of drones to boost industry performance, according to KtoStroit.ru.

The priority use cases include building inspections powered by artificial intelligence to automatically detect structural defects; pre-design surveys using photogrammetry and laser scanning for precise measurements; construction site monitoring through 3D models and orthophotos; land plot oversight to verify legal use and boundaries; and sewer inspections using drones to assess collectors.

Drones are a powerful tool for the sector, improving measurement accuracy, speeding up processes, and enhancing safety on sites. They also help shorten project timelines and streamline documentation, accelerating the commissioning of new facilities.

Forum participants, including government and business representatives, also addressed drone infrastructure development, protection of critical facilities, and workforce training. Major companies are already piloting drone use in construction, energy, and logistics, underscoring growing demand for the technology.
