Russia's New Smart Transit Platform Promises a Leap in Urban Mobility

An AI-driven platform built in Siberia aims to overhaul how Russia manages its public transportation, cutting costs and improving service in real time.

A breakthrough in Russia’s urban transit tech comes from an unexpected place—Omsk, where local developers at IT Mobile have created 'Kontroler,' a homegrown AI platform for managing passenger transport. According to Kommersant News, the system replaces outdated foreign and legacy solutions still used by city dispatchers.

Designed to address common urban mobility issues like overcrowding and rush-hour bottlenecks, Kontroler offers centralized control through a digital 'single window.' It automatically collects and analyzes key data—such as mileage, fuel consumption, and schedule adherence—streamlining operations and reducing manual error.

Co-founder of IT Mobile, Pyotr Kozlov, says existing transport software is stuck in the past. 'Dispatchers still use spreadsheet-based systems that require opening three or four windows at once. There's no data exchange between applications, and a lot is done manually, which wastes time and causes mistakes,' he explained.

Already deployed in Mordovia, the platform has cut decision-making time by a factor of six to eight. It adjusts driver workflows in real time, manages route intervals, and supports a switch to digital trip logs and remote medical checkups. Staffing needs for oversight have also dropped significantly.

Authorities across other Russian regions are already expressing interest, and discussions are underway to scale the platform nationwide. Developers believe Kontroler’s success could spark international attention as well.
