Russia’s Nuclear Industry Slashes Environmental Risks with AI-Driven Monitoring

At the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, smart IT systems track environmental impact in real time, cutting it to record lows.
Russia’s nuclear power plants are implementing environmental strategies aimed at protecting nature and using natural resources responsibly. To meet these goals, they are deploying advanced IT solutions. One of the most notable examples is the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, where environmental impact has been reduced to record lows.
The plant relies on the Automated Radiation Situation Control System (ASKRO), a remote dosimetry monitoring network. It consists of 14 radiation monitoring posts within a 17-kilometer zone around the facility and another seven outside the observation zone. Powered by neural networks, these smart systems continuously analyze air, water, soil, and other environmental parameters, instantly reporting even the smallest changes.
