Tests Confirm Centimeter-Level Accuracy of Russian Autonomous Farming System

Russia has tested its first universal high-precision guidance system for agricultural machinery, showing performance on par with global leaders and aiming to cut dependence on foreign solutions.

Developed by the company GLONASS, the new guidance system can be quickly installed on almost any type of farm equipment, compatible with both domestic and foreign models. The first universal Russian system was tested on experimental fields and at the proving ground of the Timiryazev State Agrarian University. The trials confirmed tractors could follow operator-set routes with centimeter-level accuracy, even during turns and across different speeds.

The system challenges the dominance of foreign companies. According to experts, foreign-made solutions are installed on 10,000–15,000 machines in Russia every year. The new system, suitable for both new and existing fleets, is expected to significantly alter that statistic. Farmers will be the main beneficiaries, gaining cost efficiency and improved quality of fieldwork. They can also access a 50 percent discount for installation under state support programs.

A new phase of testing began in the fall, covering harrowing, winter sowing, fertilization, and other field operations.
