Yandex has opened access to the beta version of its medical AI assistant to all doctors. Previously, it was available only to staff at clinics that partner with the company.

In effect, the assistant is an extensive reference tool that can help doctors across different specialties. A primary care physician, for example, can quickly check whether prescribed medications are compatible, while a neurologist can look up the recommended sequence of examinations after a patient’s first epileptic seizure.

The assistant draws on 1,000 different sources to generate its answers. These include the latest versions of clinical guidelines, the International Classification of Diseases, Russia’s State Register of Medicines, Ministry of Health orders, regulations and medical reference materials.

The digital assistant can also produce both concise and detailed answers. Short responses are useful when a doctor needs to quickly check something during rounds, while longer ones can help when a subject requires more in-depth review.
