Yaroslavl Region Deploys ‘Spiders’ and Parkright Systems to Monitor Traffic
Regional traffic police in Russia’s Yaroslavl region have rolled out smart surveillance systems that track vehicles in real time directly in traffic flow.
Patrol vehicles operated by the Yaroslavl region branch of Russia’s traffic police have been equipped with Parkright hardware-and-software systems designed to record traffic violations. The devices detect drivers who break road rules, Kommersant Yaroslavl reported.
The Parkright system automatically records speeding, identifies vehicles listed as wanted, and flags cars driven by unlicensed drivers. The platform logs violations and alerts traffic police officers, who then stop vehicles for inspection.
The system also identifies cars whose registrations have been revoked. It flags repeat offenders who avoid paying fines. Officers can view detailed information about a vehicle and its owner on a tablet in real time.
Regional officials say the smart systems will streamline officers’ work and improve enforcement outcomes.
‘Spiders’ Expand Across Regional Roads
In late 2025, the Yaroslavl region traffic inspectorate deployed 50 “Spider” systems. The Russian-made hardware-and-software platform, developed by NPO ITS, is designed for automated photo and video recording of traffic violations and for monitoring vehicle flows. The system continuously tracks road conditions. It comes in two configurations: one for detecting a broad range of violations and another for collecting traffic data, including vehicle volume, traffic density, and average speed. The system uses both radar-based and non-radar measurement methods. It detects speeding, running red lights, crossing stop lines, failure to wear seat belts, and the use of mobile phones while driving. It also gathers data to support smart transportation management systems.
