The resource was developed as part of a research project supported by the Russian Science Foundation. It brings satellite data and information from unmanned aerial systems together in one place. At the presentation, speakers highlighted the portal’s potential value for specialists’ day-to-day work.

Combining satellite data with ground-based observations will make it possible to cover larger areas, conduct observations more frequently, and reduce the cost of trips to hard-to-reach parts of the Arctic. The portal will also make it possible to track changes in natural processes and hazardous phenomena over many years, from floods and coastal erosion to the effects of industrial activity on fragile Arctic ecosystems.

Participants discussed further cooperation and interest in using the portal for professional and research work. The resource was previously demonstrated to representatives of the regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry and the Murmansk Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring.
