Beeline, Russian Railways, and InfoTeKS Test Quantum Protection for Corporate Networks

Three companies have successfully tested a technology that makes data interception physically impossible.

Beeline, Russian Railways, and cybersecurity developer InfoTeKS conducted pilot tests of kvantovoye raspredeleniye klyuchey (quantum key distribution). The technology encrypts data using photons: any attempt to intercept them alters their state, effectively preventing eavesdropping. During the trials, offices of Beeline and Russian Railways in Moscow were connected to a node of the company’s backbone quantum network using ViPNet QKD equipment developed by InfoTeKS. The teams successfully transmitted data, made VoIP calls, and held video conferences.

As Valery Shorzhin, deputy CEO of Beeline, noted, quantum key distribution relies not on computational complexity but on the laws of quantum physics.

“Such a key cannot be cracked - its resistance to interception is guaranteed by the laws of nature. That is why quantum networks are suitable - and already in use - for protecting critical infrastructure, financial data, and government communications. The joint project by Beeline, Russian Railways, and InfoTeKS lays the groundwork for broader commercial adoption of this technology. By taking part in its development, Beeline reinforces its position as the most secure telecom operator,” he said.
