High School Sophomores at PetrSU Learn to Design Buildings Digitally
Petrozavodsk State University has launched a series of hands-on building information modeling classes for 10th-graders in its engineering and technology track.

Students are creating digital models using Renga, a Russian software system. The classes take place at School No. 55 in Petrozavodsk and are taught by Yulia Nikonova, an associate professor in the Department of Construction Technology and Management at PetrSU’s Institute of Forest, Mining and Construction Sciences, the university’s press service reports. Students are learning the core tools in Renga and using them to build information models of buildings. They are also learning how the technology is used to design, construct and manage the life cycle of buildings and other capital construction projects.
Particular attention is given to how digital models can help identify design errors, plan construction work and estimate costs. The classes are held regularly as part of the university’s career guidance program. The course is intended for students considering degree programs in construction and engineering.
