Robotic Labs Open in Russia to Train Future Oil and Gas Engineers
Students will train on some of the most advanced industrial equipment available.
New state-of-the-art laboratories for training oil and gas specialists have opened at one of Russia’s leading technical universities, Bauman Moscow State Technical University. The university’s press service said the facilities were launched at the Science and Education Center for Welding and Inspection, which now includes two sites equipped with robotic welding systems and an industrial computed tomography scanner. The equipment was supplied with support from Transneft. The center now hosts a unique full-cycle cluster where students will study additive manufacturing, new welding techniques, and precision quality control.
University officials said the laboratories will allow students to design unique structural components, apply specialized protective coatings, and create detailed models for testing.
New Welding and Inspection Technologies
The robotic systems in the labs will operate in tandem with real-time diagnostics, while the industrial tomography scanner will be used to assess the condition of inspected objects.
As noted by Mikhail Gordin, rector of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the new facilities will make it possible to develop and test advanced welding and inspection technologies, strengthening the country’s technological sovereignty.
Pavel Revel-Muroz, vice president of Transneft, added that the combination of scientific expertise and modern equipment “will make it possible to address pressing challenges in welding and inspection, which are directly linked to the safety, reliability, and durability of pipeline infrastructure.”
The technologies developed by the university and the oil pipeline company are expected to be applied in the design and operation of oil pipelines.
