In April 2026, a pilot program to deliver medicines by drone will launch in the Khangalassky District of Yakutia, the regional government’s press service said.

The drones will transport medicines, medical supplies, and biological samples for laboratory testing between settlements in the district. According to Yakutia Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Semyonov, the service is particularly important during periods of ice drift and high water, when traditional transport routes are disrupted.

The project is being implemented by the republic’s Ministry of Health in partnership with SakhaDron, a resident company of the Polyarny (Polar) research and production center for testing and competency development in unmanned aerial systems.

Another Step in the Republic’s Aerologistics Development

Yakutia became the first region to organize regular drone flights between populated areas. In 2025, the republic launched the pilot project Vozdushnaya Pereprava (Air Crossing), operated by Boon Market, to deliver small cargo using UAVs. The drones fly between Yakutsk and Nizhny Bestyakh across the Lena River, transporting loads of up to 10 kilograms in 15 minutes during the shoulder seasons.

Unmanned aerial systems in Yakutia are also expanding into other sectors.

“Drones are being used for comprehensive surveys of agricultural land: creating a digital registry, conducting initial land suitability assessments, and performing cadastral work. In addition, agricultural drones will apply fertilizers and crop protection products for forage crops,” Semyonov added.
