Amur Museum Exhibits to Speak With the Help of AI

Russia’s Ministry of Culture plans to use artificial intelligence to create audio guides for the entire digitized collection in the Artefakt (Artifact) app by the end of 2026. The G.S. Novikov-Daursky Amur Regional Museum of Local History is participating in the project.

Each exhibit is expected to get its own audio guide, eliminating the need for museum staff to work on each item manually. Descriptions are also set to be translated into Tatar, Bashkir, Moksha, Komi, Erzya and Ingush.

At the Amur museum’s Art of Eastern Countries exhibition, about 40 exhibits have already been equipped with AR markers. Visitors point a smartphone camera at an exhibit to access text, audio guides in Russian and English, and interactive augmented-reality points of interest.

Nadezhda Dorgunova, minister of culture and national policy of the Amur Region, said participation in the project is not merely a technological upgrade but an opportunity to showcase the region’s heritage across the country. The app makes the exhibits easier to understand for a broad audience, from schoolchildren to tourists.

The app is free, works offline once content has been downloaded and is available for iOS and Android.
