Artificial Intelligence Is Set to Boost Russian Soccer Performance

AI is being used to help Russian soccer players score more goals by predicting their movements and guiding in-game decisions.

Artificial intelligence is making its way into Russian soccer. In an interview with Rossiya 24, Savva Shipov, executive director of CSKA Moscow, explained how the club is integrating AI technologies. These tools primarily analyze player behavior and forecast the likelihood of scoring. The system runs performance analytics and generates insights on how individual players should act to improve results. It also predicts goal-scoring opportunities based on field dynamics.

But that’s just one part of the AI implementation. A digital twin system installed at the Moscow stadium processes everyday data like temperature, humidity, and lighting. As a result, the club has already cut electricity costs by 20 percent and can now automatically create more comfortable conditions for athletes.

AI is becoming an essential tool for both the head coach and the club’s financial director.

In other sports in Russia, technology is used for clearer judging. AI gives its assessments of the athletes' actions, and these are taken into account when determining the final result.  For instance, the gymnastics federation uses AI to evaluate athletes’ routines—these assessments factor into the final scoring.
