Artificial Intelligence Takes the Lead in Russia’s Fight Against Cyberthreats

Experts at Kaspersky Lab say AI is becoming the backbone of cybersecurity, automating routine defenses so specialists can focus on complex attacks.

Artificial intelligence is emerging as a primary ally for information security professionals in Russia. Anna Kulashova, Vice President for Business Development at Kaspersky Lab in Russia and the CIS, underscored AI’s central role in defending against cyberthreats during a recent forum in Kazan.

“AI expands the possibilities for protecting businesses. Already today, it helps cybersecurity teams manage the ‘front line,’ taking over routine tasks and freeing specialists to focus on more complex and critical challenges. We expect this direction to continue advancing rapidly,” Kulashova said.

This technological trend is backed by significant financial momentum. According to Kommersant, citing industry insiders, Russian companies plan to increase their investments in cybersecurity. Additional funding is projected to reach up to 47 billion rubles (about $560 million) in 2025 and 58 billion rubles (about $690 million) in 2026. Overall demand for cybersecurity solutions has already risen by 40 percent.

The expert’s assessment, combined with the market’s investment plans, points to a clear imperative for Russian business. Cybersecurity—especially with AI at its core—is no longer optional. It has become a strategic necessity.
