The Future Is Being Written Today

In the coming decades, the world will change beyond recognition, with new technologies accelerating transformations. A new documentary, “The History of the Future,” explores these changes and why gadgets may soon become obsolete.

Thirteen Friends of Artificial Intelligence

The video project “The History of the Future” was produced by SberMarketing in collaboration with SberSeller. It includes one full-length documentary and six thematic episodes envisioning the world of 2050. The first part has already premiered and is available on several platforms. Additional episodes will be released by the end of October.

The film is built around interviews with leading experts who help viewers understand how society may evolve and how to approach artificial intelligence. The central theme is finding balance between the real and virtual worlds, explored by the filmmakers and 13 featured participants. Among them are Russian science fiction writer Sergey Lukyanenko, Sber’s Vice President for Cybersecurity Sergey Lebed, Head of Basic Models at Kandinsky Sber Denis Dimitrov, Sber’s Director of AI Technology Development Sergey Markov, and industrial designer Vladimir Pirozhkov, head of Sber’s design center.

AI as a Human Assistant

The next few years will bring sweeping societal changes. New technologies are set to reshape labor markets and redefine professions. Taxi drivers, for example, may become obsolete in a world of self-driving cars. Many will have to retrain, perhaps as mechanics maintaining autonomous vehicles.

“We will face many personal tragedies as people fall out of traditional roles. But those who learn to work with neural networks and control them will be in high demand in the new reality,” says Lukyanenko.

The future cannot be invented alone. ‘The History of the Future’ is a space for dialogue between experts and viewers, where new meanings are born. At the heart of the project lies a large-scale study of the key areas of the next 25 years—from science and professions to social change. We are looking at how technologies—including artificial intelligence—will transform medicine, education, art, and everyday life. This film is not a dry forecast but a chance to show how not only tools and opportunities evolve, but also humans themselves—their values and ways of interacting with the world

As Denis Dimitrov, Managing Director of Data Research at Sber, notes, artificial intelligence should be seen as a tool—an assistant to humans. Like all technological revolutions, AI will trigger a redistribution of labor. Yet control will remain in human hands, with new professions emerging to manage machines and develop software.

AI and Human Physical Abilities

Today, gadgets extend our capabilities. Soon, however, gadgets themselves may seem outdated. The world is moving toward invasive technologies that augment human physical abilities. Elon Musk’s experiments demonstrate this direction. In the future, microchips embedded in the body could monitor health and enhance capabilities.

Microelectrode arrays, already implanted in the cerebral cortex, are in use today. Advances in fields such as optogenetics, which modifies neurons genetically, point to a future where these technologies become mainstream.

The Rise of Edutainment

Sber frequently engages with the theme of the future in its projects. In 2025, it launched the interactive “World of Your Future.” Its exhibition “Universe of the Future” at VDNH was recognized as RBC’s “Event of the Year.” Sber is systematically popularizing AI and digital trends through accessible educational entertainment.

“As we at SberSeller see it, the future belongs to those who can align technology with human needs, building communication not around tools but around a deep understanding of people—their values, motives, and worldview. We are glad to have the opportunity to discuss how tomorrow will change and to help people and businesses prepare for inevitable transformations,” says Natalia Dmitrieva, CEO of SberSeller.

“The History of the Future” strengthens the trend toward edutainment and the popularization of AI and digital services among both businesses and the public. It positions Sber as a provider of digital expertise and reinforces Russia’s image as a leader in emerging technologies.
