Artificial Intelligence Enters Organ Transplantation in Russia
The technology is being used to analyze medical data and support clinical decision-making.

Russian transplant surgeons are using artificial intelligence to match donor organs with recipients, said Sergey Gautier, chief freelance transplant specialist at the Ministry of Health of Russia, speaking at a press conference.
According to Gautier, selecting a donor organ for a specific recipient using specialized software is one of AI’s core tasks in transplantation. Algorithms process vast datasets to identify compatibility between an organ and a recipient.
More Effective Than a Specialist
In particular, the technology can analyze computed tomography scans and outline a plan of further action for physicians. As Gautier concluded, AI serves as a support tool for clinicians, processing large volumes of data and providing insights to inform subsequent decisions.
