CryptoPro Develops Its Own Browser for Russian Cryptography

CryptoPro LLC is preparing to release its own web browser with domestic encryption algorithms built directly into the software rather than added through a separate plug-in.

The product, called KryptoPro-Brauzer (CryptoPro Browser), will be part of the CryptoPro CSP 6.0 package. It is designed for companies and government agencies that are legally required to protect information using certified Russian cryptography. The browser will be able to establish secure TLS connections using Russian standards on its own, while also supporting the company’s CryptoPro cryptographic plug-in when needed.

The project was prompted by problems with foreign platforms. The CryptoPro extension disappeared from the Chrome Web Store, forcing Chrome users to look for alternative ways to install it. The company then advised customers to switch to other solutions.

CryptoPro said the project has already been approved by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), but has not disclosed a specific release date. The browser will enter a market that already includes Yandex Browser, which is used by tens of thousands of Russian organizations. Experts also believe the new browser could become mandatory for some government agencies.
