Russia’s Largest Online Marketplace to Build an AI-Focused Data Center
Wildberries, Russia’s biggest e-commerce platform, has begun construction of a dedicated data center designed specifically for artificial intelligence workloads, marking a major shift toward sovereign, high-performance computing infrastructure.
A New Computing Architecture for AI
Wildberries has launched the construction of a specialized data center in Yekaterinburg—its first facility built exclusively for AI training and deployment. The company estimates the total investment at nearly $11 million. According to Wildberries’ press service, the center will host up to 20 racks designed for AI workloads. The architecture is being developed with high-intensity computing loads in mind, including advanced cooling systems needed for large-scale AI model training.
The facility will be located on the premises of an active logistics complex, allowing the company to integrate AI operations directly into its warehouse and supply-chain ecosystem. Wildberries is also considering opening a second AI-oriented data center in Samara.
New Jobs and Expanded Digital Capabilities
Wildberries has already built several data centers in various cities to support the rapid expansion of its digital services. Its first facility, launched in 2023 in the Moscow Region, processes requests across all of the company’s online platforms.
Transitioning to proprietary data centers will reduce reliance on third-party services and strengthen the company’s technological independence. Representatives note that the opening of new centers will also create high-tech job opportunities for engineers and data specialists.
The move signals Wildberries’ commitment to building long-term AI infrastructure capable of powering recommendation systems, logistics automation, demand forecasting, and advanced customer-service solutions—all key elements of modern e-commerce competition.
