AO Almazy Anabara, part of the ALROSA Group, has launched a strategic geology project that will use artificial intelligence to detect large diamonds. The initiative is being implemented at the company’s processing site in collaboration with ALROSA IT and the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the company said in a statement.

The goal is to develop and deploy machine learning models capable of recognizing and classifying diamonds in real time at placer deposits. The AI system will analyze video streams, segment objects and identify potentially valuable crystals using image processing algorithms.

Large Diamonds in the Flow

The system will be tested at a pilot processing facility, where AI will detect simulated large diamonds within the overall stream of raw material.

The project has strategic importance and has been approved by ALROSA and the Innovation Council of the Yakutia Innovation Development Fund.

The project is structured in three stages. The first phase was completed at the end of 2025, while the second will take place during the 2026 washing season. The project is scheduled for full completion by the end of the current year.
